Almost a year ago we reviewed the most expensive version of ASUS ROG G752VY notebook based on NVIDIA GTX 980M, which let and left very positive impressions, but did not stand out against direct competitors. But today a different case – for testing we got only the updated version of the G752VS with a completely new screen and Intel 7th generation processor, which, in all probability, retained all the advantages of its predecessors. Or have some of them disappeared? Let's check it out!

Understanding the huge number of ASUS laptops and their modifications is not the easiest task. So in the case of the hero of today's review – on the box and information labels the laptop is called G752VS (with SKU-number BA326T), and with a couple of information utilities it is defined as G752VSK. However, judging by the issuance of Google, this laptop does not exist in nature. On the other hand, we have an absolute novelty in our hands, which did not manage to hit the market, so it's not surprising that the vastness of the Internet does not know about it all the details.
An additional letter K with a high probability may denote the use of Intel processors of the Kaby Lake generation. By the way, the first G752VS versions, which appeared on sale in late August 2016, were the first to use the GPU of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070. After five months, this is no surprise – the competitors tried their best!
At the time of testing, there was still no accurate information on how many modifications the ASUS gaming novelty will ship. If we start from the possible versions of G752 with the previous generation of Intel processors, then the range of solutions should be wide. Probably, there will be versions with RAM from 8 to 32 GB, SSD-drives from 128 to 512 GB (including in a RAID-0 array) and IPS-type screens with a resolution from Full HD to UHD 4K.
In addition, we already know for sure: there is a version with a Full HD IPS-type display with a frequency of vertical scanning at 120 Hz and simultaneous support for NVIDIA G-Sync technology – it's what we got for the test. Perhaps, this is one of the most important differences of the novelty from all predecessors of the last few years and the most significant feature for the buyers of this notebook. What users of stationary PCs can enjoy, finally came to gaming laptops.
If you look at the table with technical characteristics, it becomes clear that the copy of ASUS ROG G752VSK we received is not the most expensive version. However, this does not cancel the fact that at the time of its appearance, the price will not be lower than 160,000 rubles. Expensive, but only until the cost of the new PC with modern components of the level of the review hero, especially if you do not forget to include in the price gaming IPS-type-display with 120-Hz scan and the necessary set of peripherals. Of course, the laptop will still be more expensive, but the figure itself will no longer look so far-fetched.
Appearance of the laptop, control elements, speaker system – all this has not changed, as well as the dimensions of the device. But the G752VSK weighs a bit more due to the use of a slightly more capacious battery – about 97 Wh / h versus 90 Wh / h from the previously tested predecessor. For 17.3-inch laptop – the indicator is very decent. On the other hand, a powerful filling will still allow you to get an acceptable lifetime away from the outlet only with a small load. With the theory finished – we turn to actually get to know the laptop.
The delivery set consists of an external power supply, a power cable, four brochures and a reusable screed. Nothing unusual. The manufacturer's warranty is 2 years.
With the new design of ASUS laptops, we ran into when we got acquainted with the model GX700 and then – and when testing the G752VY. Our guest today looks the same, so we will not tell you anything fundamentally new until the end of this subsection.
The appearance of the laptop is a combination of complex shapes in a dark metal case with copper-orange inserts (ROG Armor Titanium and Plasma Copper).
The upper part and decorative covers are made of brushed aluminum, in which several plastic inserts with red-orange illumination are made (alas, this is not a configurable RGB). It is even installed in the field of red "gill" in the back.
The ROG logo located in the center of the case is also highlighted. The quality of the materials used at the height, the laptop looks, in our opinion, is also good: expensive and impressive.
Another ASUS logo flaunts on the bottom frame of the screen. A block with five device status indicators is located next to the touchpad buttons.
The thickness of our ASUS G752 varies from 23 to 53 mm (in some sources a maximum thickness of 48 mm is indicated, apparently without taking into account the legs) – a large cooling system can be installed in the thick body, so that the impressive thickness is only for the best. Weight depends on the modification, in our case it is 4.4 kg. The display is reclined to the maximum possible angle for the used mechanism – about 130 degrees.
There is a laptop on four rubber legs of different shapes – they are rather tenacious, do not slip. On the bottom cover you can see a pair of ventilation grilles, as well as a familiar pattern and a translucent black window made of Plexiglas, allowing you to see a part of the cooling system.
Nearby there is a sticker with technical information. It allows you to find out that the copy we received was made in November 2016.
There are two USB 3.0 ports on the left side, a SD / SDHC / SDXC / MMC card reader, a 3.5mm audio output and a power connector, a Kensington lock and an optical drive tray (this time without a rare Blu- Ray).
On the opposite side you can see the main "core" of ports: two more USB 3.0, one USB 3.1 Type-C, full-size HDMI 1.4, mini DisplayPort 1.2, RJ-45 network port, power connector and three audio connectors. The set is excellent, but some buyers will complain about its location – the wires under the right hand can interfere when working with the mouse.
Despite the use of matte plastic and brushed aluminum, some elements are not practical – they are made of soft touch plastic that likes to collect fingerprints. This applies to the working area and the keyboard – you can not keep up with all the other elements.
The build quality of the G752VSK is very good. The gaps between the elements are minimal, the processing of the edges is almost perfect. Nothing crunches and does not creak. The upper cover of the screen noticeably flexes when pressed, but this does not greatly affect the impressions of the device. The working surface of such behavior is not different – everything is rigid and tight.
The input devices did not change in the novelty either. The laptop is equipped with a full-size island membrane keyboard with a digital unit. The main working area made of rubberized plastic is framed by an aluminum plate, on which the logo and the name of the series are marked, and a plastic insert is integrated into the top of it.
The color of the buttons is black, the surface of the keys is matte, all letters and symbols are red. The backlight is one-color, also red, provides three levels of brightness and the ability to turn it off altogether. With the help of special software it is possible to activate the backlighting exclusively for certain (already selected for you by the manufacturer) keyboard shortcuts.
The size of the main keys is 15 × 15 mm. The buttons of the upper control unit are somewhat smaller in height, which is the norm for most notebooks. All control keys work by default when the Fn button is pressed. In the top left corner there are six additional customizable keys (one starts the video capture, the other five are for recording and playing back macros).
The distance between the keys is 3.5 mm, the declared stroke is 2.5 mm. Simultaneous processing of up to 30 keystrokes is supported (we do not really imagine, really, for what). The very pressures are soft, clear, with a moderate force returning force. The sound is not loud. The layout is quite common, but the Insert key is combined with Delete and activated when the Fn modifier is clamped – this can embarrass someone. In the rest to the keyboard there are no complaints.
The working area of the touch panel is noticeably shifted to the left and has a trapezoidal shape. Dimensions are average: 120 × 66 mm. As a surface – semi-plastic. Two physical keys with an average stroke (about 2 mm) are used, muffled, but nevertheless distinctly audible by the sound of pressing. The buttons are well sprung. The touchpad (using the panel from ELAN) is very sensitive and recognizes gestures well. We did not find any random triggers.
The laptop is equipped with a 1.3 megapixel camera, next to which are two microphones for better sound transmission and noise reduction, as well as an operation indicator. The picture quality is not particularly emphasized, the maximum resolution is 720p.
Despite the fact that outwardly all models of the G752 line are similar to the GX700, with the only difference being that the design does not complicate the liquid cooling system, it is not easy to solve the G752VSK and get to all the installed elements
At home, without special skills and loss of warranty, you can remove only a special hatch, fixed on one screw.
After this simple operation, the user gets access to the SSD-drive (you can install the second and create a RAID array) hidden behind the metal plate, two memory slots (of four) and a HDD installed in a separate compartment without the use of noise-absorbing / anti-vibration Materials.
For further disassembly of the device it will be necessary to unscrew about a dozen external screws, as many internal ones, find and uncouple numerous plastic latches, and, in general, exert force to open the structure. While there is a guarantee (24 months) – to do this definitely is not worth it. And then you never know …
If you notice an error – select it with the mouse and press CTRL + ENTER.
